Neighbours

Kurd, Jew, Arab – teacher please, no one is missing.

What is a six-year-old boy in a small village on the Turkish-Syrian border in the 1980s interested in? Allah? Anti-Semitism? Imperialism? No, he just wants a TV set so he can watch cartoons. But life is not so sweet.

In Swiss-Kurdish director Mano Khalil’s award-winning satire, it’s as if the villagers live in a microcosm. They live peacefully together despite the cruelty of an increasingly radicalised society. Their differences somehow coming together like so many little Legos.
